Lillian Benson is a longtime documentary editor. Benson made her directorial debut with All Our Sons-Fallen Heroes of 9/11, a half-hour documentary about the firefighters of color who died at the World Trade Center.
The
film was broadcast nationally on PBS in 2003 and 2004, and was
shown at the international filmfestival FESPACO, Burkina
Faso, West Africa, as well as several festivals in the U.S. All Our Sons - Fallen Heroes of 9/11 tells the story of the twelve courageous Black firefighters who challenged the status quo to join the New York Fire Department and who heroically lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Told
through firsthand accounts of their mothers, the documentary film
honors the spirit of the twelve firefighters lost, highlights their

Charles Domokos has taught post-production classes at the University of Southern California (U.S.C.) School of Cinema & TV and at the U.S.C. Summer Production Workshop from 1988 to 2003 (various Avid platforms). He has also taught TV and post-production courses at Loyola Marymount Univ. (Avid & FCP) and (currently) at Los Angeles City College School of Cinema-TV. He has served as an Avid consultant to TV post-production houses and edited short-form and long-form projects including TV documentaries and independent features. His most recent film RETURN TO VIETNAM won a 2007 Silver Telly (highest award) in the feature tv documentary category.

Carole Eglash-Kosoff Apartheid in South Africa has been gone more than fifteen years but the heroes of that struggle are still being revealed. A white, Jewish, middle class woman, joined with Tutu, Millie, Ivy, Zora and other concerned Black women, respectfully called Mamas, helped those most in need, often risking being beaten and arrested.
Carole Eglash-Kosoff lives and writes in Valley Village, California. She graduated from UCLA and spent her career in business and in teaching. In 2006 her husband, mother, and brother died within a month of one another,causing her to reevaluate her life. She volunteered to work with the American Jewish World Service and was sent to South Africa to teach. She returned there a year later, having met an amazing array of men and women who had devoted their lives during the worst years of apartheid to helping the children, the elderly, and the disabled of the townships. Gloria Shell Mitchell enjoys writing skits and personalized poems. Her raps, There’s A Time, I Say and Can You Imagine That, have been presented in churches, youth rallies and schools. Born in Washington DC Mr. Rhines graduated from Coolidge High School then attended Yale University’s Summer High School and Transitional Year Program after failing the 12th grade. He worked as first janitor then photography instructor as he earned a BA at DC based Antioch College-BHP (Center for the Study of Basic Human Problems) in 1974. He completed an MA in African American Studies at Yale in 1983 after teaching English with the YMCA in Asia and leading students in Mali, French West Africa with Operation Crossroads, Inc., in 1980. While at Yale he worked as an IBM Systems Engineer before earning a Film Production Certificate at NYU. He earned a Political Science MA at UCLA in 1986 and a UC Berkeley PhD in Ethnic Studies in 1993. He was Assistant Professor of Political Economy in the African American Studies Department at Rutgers University-Newark when Rutgers University Press published his dissertation, BLACK FILM/WHITE MONEY, in 1996 and it won a Gustavus Mayer Human Rights Award in 1997. Since denial of tenure in 2003, he has been disabled with hip replacements, heart disease and cancer, which combined strongly encouraged his return to the warmer, flatter terrain of Los Angeles, CA. He taught English near Madrid, Spain with Vaughantown in 2006 and in La Rioja, Spain with Auxiliares Norteamericanos de Conversación in November 2010. |

Although Madeline Sharples worked for most of her professional life as a technical writer and editor, grant writer, and proposal manager, she fell in love with poetry and creative writing in grade school. She pursued her writing interests to high school while studying journalism and writing for the high school newspaper, and she studied journalism in college. However, she only began to fulfill her dream to be a professional writer later in life. Madeline’s memoir, Leaving the Hall Light On (Lucky Press LLC, 2011), is the harrowing but ultimately uplifting tale of the course of years from her son Paul’s diagnosis with bipolar disorder, through his suicide at her home to the present day. It details how Madeline, her husband and younger son weathered every family’s worst nightmare.
Madeline is now a full-time writer and is working on her next book, a novel, based in the 1920s. She and Bob, her husband of 40 years, live in Manhattan Beach, California, a small beach community south of Los Angeles. Her younger son Ben lives in Santa Monica, California with his wife Marissa. Women: Trailblazing Women Take on Men-Only Jobs (New Horizon
Press, 1994) a book about women in nontraditional professions and
co-edited the poetry anthology, The Great American Poetry
Show, Volumes 1 (Muse Media, 2004) and 2 (2010). Her poetry
accompanies the work of photographer Paul Blieden in two books,
The Emerging Goddess and Intimacy as well as appearing in print
and online on many occasions.The Greater Los Angeles Writers Society is a 501 (c) non-profit that provides a forum for writers of all disciplines to meet and discuss their craft and the business of writing. GLAWS accomplishes this through monthly meetings, discussion forums, critique groups, special writer appearances, conferences, and other events conducted for the purpose of educating and mentoring writers of all levels of expertise. GLAWS monthly general meetings are open to the public, the first you may attend free before joining. It is a great venue to meet other writers and expand your expertise.
